Once upon a midnight dreary..While laboring over homework weak & weary..
Just as I nodded off and began to snore..
Came a tapping at my bedroom door.
(Gosh! I wish that is room service. I'm starving!)
Let my heart be still & the mystery explore..
I leaped from my seat to throw open the door.
(Maybe it's Mom bringing me milk & cookies)
Before me stood not room service nor dear ol' mater..
But rather an ebony bird, a raven, who did not cater!
Much I marveled at this ungainly fowl..
And cursed by hunger I began to howl..
(Food! Food! I desire a tasty treat!)
(Not tweet.. Treat, you bird brain)
But the raven sitting lonely perched upon my door..
To my greatest shock spoke only a single word: s'more!
(S'more? S'more! Yes! That's a tasty treat! Can I have one?)
The fowl's fiery eyes burned into my bosom's core..
And made me yearn for a summer's campfire treat of wilderness lore.
(Yum! Sweet chocolate! Soft marshmallow! Tasty graham crackers!)
S'more! S'more! cried I.
Foul bird, what tempter sent or tempest tossed thee here ashore!
(When the topic is food do not jest.. Or my patience you will sorely test)
Mocked the craven bird: no s'more!
Summer's treat has passed.
It's fire extinguished said the raven: s'more nevermore!
(Alas! My heart cannot stand the pain.. Nor my empty stomach the strain!)
On this home my horror haunted, tell me why truly I implore..
Must this gnawing hunger I endure?
The raven nodded & cawed: forever more!
(Food! I require sustenance)
Pushed to the brink of madness, I began to roar..
Take thy beak from out of my heart and take thy form from my door!
(Beat it, you dumb bird, and return nevermore!)
(AWK!)
